What it is
The State Department's Fulbright U.S. Student Program funds a year abroad after college: a study/research grant (your own project, or a graduate program in some countries) or an English Teaching Assistant placement. You apply in the fall of senior year through your school's Fulbright Program Adviser, who sets a campus deadline 4-6 weeks before the national one; recent grads can also apply. The application is open annually from early April to mid-October.
Who it's for
- Who it's for
- US citizens who will hold a bachelor's degree by the grant start: apply in senior year (or as a recent grad). Freshmen to juniors: this is a senior-year application, so plan toward it and meet your campus Fulbright adviser early

What's a fellowship?
A selective program with mentoring, training and often funding.

Don't wait for the deadline. Early applicants often get reviewed first, and spots fill on a rolling basis.
