What it is
NSF's directory of Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Sites, a place to browse many funded summer research programs, not one program. Search by research area, location and keyword; each site lists its website and contacts, and you apply to each site directly (NSF doesn't select students). A site is usually about 10 students doing research with faculty at a host institution, with a stipend and often help with housing, meals and travel.

Don't wait for the deadline. Early applicants often get reviewed first, and spots fill on a rolling basis.
